F – FEATURE YOUR LATEST BOOK OBSESSION
This is a new ARC I recieved from Edelweiss and I am really excited to read it! This doesn’t publish until October, so my review will be delayed, but it looks like a great new series for upper middle-grade readers! The premise is fun, the cover is inviting, and I’ve only heard good things about this author!
Launch of a new series for upper middle graders about a girl who has lived as an international thief, now returned to the real world.
Frankie Lorde and her dad have been a team for as long as Frankie can remember. Being a tutor under the man responsible for some of the world’s biggest heists has given Frankie a unique perspective on the world. And a special set of life skills. Frankie can spot an FBI agent in a second. Pick a lock in two seconds. Steal a Bugatti in three. Then dad is arrested.
Frankie is sent to live with her uncle, her dad’s brother who she barely knows, and is, ironically a cop. Now Frankie has to go to middle school, learn what suburban kids wear and eat. But also ironically, Frankie is in Greenwich, CT, one of the richest towns in America. Seeing the starkness of super rich and the super not rich who support the community gives Frankie an idea. How to use her skills for doing good, to even the score…
I – INDICATE WHICH BOOK/S YOU ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO READING THIS WEEKEND.
Super excited about this book! I read the introductory novella, Vanishing Point, for a recent book blitz and I can’t wait to read more about Kate Carpenter. Similar to the book above, this features the high stakes world of art and it’s many interesting characters. Reading this as part of a book tour with Love Book Tours, scheduled to post my review Sunday! Check it out if you can! This will be a great new release!
A stolen painting. A gangster intent on revenge. And nothing is what it seems.
Art consultant Kate Carpenter has an off-the-books sideline in art recovery, dealing with thieves, gangsters and the occasional war criminal to reunite priceless artworks with their owners. But when she refuses a request from the owner of one missing painting, Yuri Sokolov isn’t prepared to take no for an answer.
Her knowledge has cost him millions, he wants revenge, and he isn’t planning to show any mercy. The only way that Kate can get Yuri Sokolov to keep his distance is to find out exactly what happened to his painting, but when she starts scraping away at the surface, she finds that nothing is exactly as it appears.
Don’t Blink is the first book in the Kate Carpenter series.
F – FAVORITE QUOTE OF THE WEEK/DAY
My favorite quotation of the week comes from Incendiary by Zoraida Córdova!
The king’s justice will stop at nothing to destory its enemies, and we’re waging a war we cannot win. But I keep fighting, maybe because it is all I’ve ever known, or maybe because the alternative is dying and I can’t do that until I’ve paid for my sins.CORDOVA, Z. (2020). -1-. In INCENDIARY (p. 14). Place of publication not identified, NY: LITTLE, BROWN.
I finally snagged a copy of Incendiary after hearing some great things. I did enjoy it and I’ve got a full review publishing today! You can find it here: Incendiary Review. Overall, I really enjoyed it and I think it was a solid start to a new series with a cool magic system. I do think it suffers a little bit from the YA fantasy genre problem of things getting overwritten. Recently, dystopian futures were in vogue and it seems like this book goes along with the prevailing trends right now. I still enjoyed it and will be looking forward to the next book! Have you read it? Tell me what you think!
F – FIVE THINGS YOU’RE HAPPY OR GRATEFUL FOR THIS WEEK.
- (Did you know it’s super hard to think of 5 new things you are thankful for each week? Some of these are repeats, but they are still true) Supporting Black voices – I’ve seen so many people lifting up Black authors, small business owners, and community members and it has been truly amazing. I hope we can keep this trend of supporting voices that need amplifying!
- New Releases – Lots of new releases in the next week and so many book birthdays to celebrate! I will always be grateful for new books!
- Family – My family has been so supportive and I am thankful and grateful to have them!
- Book Mail – Book mail is always fun and I’m getting through my TBR stack, but it’s be a journey!
- Readers – Thankful for the people who read my blog, whether you are fellow bloggers, readers, authors, or whoever you are! I am grateful for you!
